The Dried Lake

Tunkwi was an old, joyful man who had a young son aged 26 called Kanucki, Kanucki loved to go down to the lake and collect water with his dad. One day Tunkwi got very ill, so Kanucki went down to the lake everyday to get water for Tunkwi. Eventually, Tunkwi got extremely ill but Kanucki would still go down to the lake a few times a day to get fresh water. The next day Kanucki went down to the lake in the scorching heat, but this day wasn’t like any other it was the hottest day in a decade, worst of all the lake had dried up!

Kanucki was astonished. He had to cross to get to the other lake in Lakota Valley but how he wondered. Kanucki thought and thought until he came up with an idea, he would have to carve a wooden plank out of a tree. After a while the wooden plank was carved and ready to be used. Kanucki put the plank across the deep, dried lake he carefully stood on it, and walked across to the other side.

Now Kanucki could see Lakota Valley in the distance, yet he still had a long way to go. Suddenly Kanucki saw a raging bull charging at him. Kanucki had two choices, they were: run or face the mad bull. Kanucki chose to face the bull! The bull seized! Nervous, Kanucki moved closer and quickly grabbed the bull by its horns, the bull let out a fierce cry, and ran off! Kanucki laughed thankfully!

Several minutes later a figure emerged, it was a man, and his name was Kawano. Kanucki warned Kawano to not go any further as the bull was still around waiting for another target. Kawano was very friendly, Kanucki greeted Kawano warmly. Kawano was from Lakota Valley and offered to give Kanucki a ride to Lakota Valley.

Kanucki told Kawano what had happened and why he had to go to Lakota Valley. Kanucki could see the tepees and the lake from where he was now even clearly. Finally they had reached there destination but Kawano had to go, so he wished good luck to Kanucki and went.

Surrounded by tepees, Kanucki walked over to the blue, cool, gentle flowing lake, he knelt down beside the lake and collected as much water as he could take in one journey. Just as Kanucki was leaving the leader of the bear tribe walked over to him and offered him a horse to ride back to his village, Kanucki was overly happy and wanted to repay the leader of the bear tribe, but the leader would not except anything because of Kanucki’s bravery. Kawano was the son of the leader and had told him everything.

When Kanucki got back to his village where he lived, Kanucki then saw his tepee and rushed over to it with the water. Kanucki wanted to see how Tunkwi was, but Tunkwi was overjoyed that Kanucki was safe and well. The day after was a day of non-stop rain fall, the rain filled up the lake again and Tunkwi was better than ever, it was a miracle. Kanucki was rewarded with an eagle’s feather to go on his head dress.]

Should there be zoo's ?

Many people like the zoo's; well I definitely know that young children do, but do zoo's hurt animals? Do get animals frustrated and stressed? Should there be zoo's? Some Nature reserves argue that animals should get more space, but some zoo's argue that they don't have enough money now especially now that the credit crunch has hit.

Some people that having zoo's is an amazing experience for young children. The zoo's can be educational as kids can learn about animals at a close range. This can can be fun for children, especially for kids with disability's and problems at their home or school. Children can also interact with some of the animals(the animals that are safe and still cubs). The zoo can be a spacial thing for everyone.

Furthermore, Animals can get protected from hunters and predators. Also scientists say many animals are coming to extinction, and zoo's help this by letting animals breed, and then some zoo's then realise them back into the wild. Animals also get what they need.

On the other hand many people believe that keeping animals in small spaces like zoo's can lead animals getting stressed and fustrated. This can destroy an animal's life , as scientists think that the animals think that they dion't want to live anymore. Scientists also think, that animals think that they are in a type of prison.

Futhermore, animals start to get lazy as animals gat all there food given to them, as normally in the wild they hunt for there food. Also the change of habitat can have some long term effects, such as to exited or to angry in there cage.

I feel that animals cam be in a place that is caring for them but they have to hunt for there food and have lots of space to play. I think nature reserves could be very goog for animals.

The Titanic

We have been investigating the Titanic, we have found a few artifacts. We have also been finding out what artifacts belong to who the artifacts include spectacle's, a maids dress, perfume and a tie pin. We had to write about the owners of these artifacts, we got split up into four groups and each group had a person to write about. We had been given a piece of paper and on the back of the paper we had to draw what you thought the artifact looked like. We also discovered that John Jacob Aster was the richest man on the Titanic and he died helping all of the other passenger. When all the lifeboats were gone all the people left dressed in there best clothes and waited until the Titanic sank.

The Titanic

A couple of weeks ago in our Mantle we did science about freezes, solids,liquids and gases it was great. We found out that icebergs where made out of compact ice some of the icebergs are nearly up to 17,000 years old thats along time; we also found out that you could find a varity of gases, solids, and liquids. Along side of that we made a massive 3D boat and had to work out where and when people worked; as well as doing all these great activitys we also did an experemant on ice lollies. We put put one on the radiator one on the book case one in a lunch bag and one in the fridge we found that the one on the radoiator melted first as it was the hottest. Never the less the one in the lunch bag was nearly melted so you can see that not all lunch boxes keep things warm.

April 4th 1912

I am so excited i think my head is going to blow.

We are finely going on the titanic we are in second class.I have seen elevators and sweeping stair case's.

1:15pm - Lunch it was very gay we had turkey, potatoes, sprouts, Yorkshire pudding, carrots, peas.

9pm - Bed time i feel really sleepy, full and tired.

Day - two: April5th

it was a lovely breakfast, lunch was better then ever i went on to the deck i saw some thing on the horizon it looked like a tiny ice berg.

Midnight we were woken up by a crew member, he said get on the deck as quick as possible
we have hit an ice berg! We were first on the life boat, we were so scared, I think it has been an hour. We have been picked up by the Virginia, some were picked up by the Carpathia and California. I never saw my dad again.

Hi Blog

We have started a new mantle and we are Underwater Archaeologists.
Underwater Archaeologists are people who find out artifacts about shipwrecks and other
things that have been underwater for years and years.

I am in the analysis and conservation team alongside with Sian, Duncan and Mr Carpentar.
The analysis and conservation team are people who get the artifacts and clean them up
and analysis the artifacts to identify their age and use.

To start of our new mantle we did a little bit of drama. We pretended to be on a ship and we
were doing our usual jobs, then we were heading towards an ice burg. Courtney and Dylan were
guard dogs, Sian, Bethan and Hannah.P were cleaners and I was the captain and their were
more characters, but I can't remember the rest of the characters.

Next we had a conference call from our boss, Mr Parks and he said to us: "Our money has
started to go down, so I would like you to get into groups and do a display. On the display I
would like you to put on a model of a ship, two diagrams, a 3D drawn or not picture, some
headings, a few paragraphs of writing, and if you want you could add some facts or something
like that. And thats what I would like youto do. So bye,bye."

As soon as we got this phone call we got into our groups and started straight away. In my group I had Sian and Hannnah.C. We had to deiced who was doing which job. So I was doing the headings and diagrams, Sian was doing the 3D picture, and Hannah.C was doing the paragraphs of writing.

The story so far is that we've have started our new mantle of the expert on underwater archaeologists. We are having a great time exploring the underwater mysteries. We have been discovering new ways of doing our job and discovering new mysteries; such as the Titanic.

We had our manager, Mr Parks, call in about our sponsor. Our task was to create 6 display boards about our company. We split up into 6 groups, and we got on with our display boards. We had 3 days to do these displays, and we had to reach our goal.

On the last day everybody had just about finished. Then Mr Parks came into our office with the sponsor. They picked one of the displays that was the best. Once they've did that they had to decide if they were going to be our sponsor. In the end they said "Yes".

Now we have now got the money, we planing to get more equipment, and hopely we can get a submarine.

Underwater Archaeology update

This is our new Mantle where we are the Underwater Archaeology Team

We have chosen our jobs some of us are researchers, some are on the technical team, some are publishing our findings and some are on the conservation team. We have been working in role but we have had our first task from manager Mr Parks we have to put on a display to impress our sponsors. However, we only have until Friday to get it finished - we will have to work as a team to complete it in time.

We got into groups of about five or six. ವೀ drew a layout of a ship that what we could for diving to look at shipwrecks trying to see what would be the best transport for caring items we said a crane after that we started talking about what jobs we would have on the boat : captain,divers,and lots more. On Tuesday we put writing in order of the titanic when it was sinking what time they got the life boats ready to get of the titanic how many people survied after? In the hall we made some drama about a robber that came on the ship. We created emotion comma sentences so that we could impagine what it was like to on a sinking ship.

Detective Rai: Welcome to T.V.D Mrs Sullivan. We are now going to ask you some questions.

Detective Young: How do you feel about Matthew's disapearance?

Kathy: Well i think he'll be better off away from here, I don't really care because its nice to get a little freedom and i've got a boyfreind now because he's gone. I really think that Matthew was holding me back.

Detective Macker: What do you know about the water tower?

Kathy: All I know is that its a waste of space and is recking the landscape. Its been there for several years and everyone is sick of seeing it there.

Detective Sweeny: Did Matthew take any belongings with him?

Kathy: No. At first I thought he did but a week later I found the things underneath the stairs. So no.

Detective Harrison: Do you go into Matthew's bedroom often?

Kathy: Maybe once in 2 months but not daily.

We have recently been to matthews house when he was an 11 year old and we found loads of evidence; there was a lizard under the sofa, hairs on the pillow(because there was a sofa bed instead of matthew's mum didn't have a room). We think that its only a bungalow because there was a door locked that we think might of been bubba's room, we obviously didn't break in because it isn't our property to ruin. We also found cat and dog baskets on the fire place with cat food all over the house. There was a cellar door in the utility room, and also a wallet left on a shelf with a passport aswell (bubba's passport).

On our latest case we are trying to find a missing boy called Matthew 0'Sullivan ,he went missing when he was 16.Which was five years ago,so he will be 21 now.His closest friend,spike mulders, has requested us to solve this problem so we decided to take on the case.Spike mulders was devastated when bubba went missing because he was an old school friend of his.When bubba and spike were 12 years old bubba fell down a water tower an spike left him there on his own.When bubba came back he was agressive and disrespectful.Bubba dissapeared on his 16th birthday just before his birthday party.Matthew lived in Perth, Australia and took $250.00 with him which he was saving for a scooter/bike.

A Yes and I don't like it when people underestimate me as I am fit, like adventure and I my other senses are excellent.

A No as when I lost my eyesight I thought I'm not going to be scared of life anymore.

A I was involved in a tragic bombing incident when I worked as a journalist in war zones and a bomb exploded on the opposite side of the road. Obviously I haven't always been blind and I can remember colours and pictures.
Q4 Do you have a guide dog?
A Yes but I haven't taken him abroad yet. I just stck to days around Britain.
Q5 Why do you want to go to a volcano?
A I always wanted to experience the wonders of volcanoes and I was about to go on a trip ten years ago when the accident occured. Now is the right time for me.

Recently in mantle we have had a man in the travel agency called Mr Southgate who wanted us to make a volcano package.So have been making a volcano package which includes: a model volcano.The volcanoes were made out of mode rock, the base was made out of an empty bottle, the first layer is paper and the second is mode rock. After we had done that and they had dried we panted them, the colours were different textures of brown, orange, red and dark green for some grass growing up the side. We added detail and left them to dry. When they were fully dry we made them erupt by using bicarbonate of soda and vinegar and we also added red food colouring to make the eruption look like lava. Also in the package instructions on how to use the volcano and how to make one.

This week in matel we went to a real life volcano called st. helens and it was supose to be dormant ...But it landed a lava bomb out of the blue every one was running for there lifes and then after that it actually looked like it was going to erupt properly but the best thing was that we got back safe and sound and live to tell the tale.

All the excitement packed into one day that was amazing we got to see what it looked like inside a real volcano the rocky lava the big crater as well as the LAVA bomb.

Trip to St Helens

Yesterday travel world went to St Helens to see what its like to be in a real volcano, we discovered lots of unknown facts and went to a huge lava lake. As we were watching the unstoppable lava a huge volcanic bomb exploded out of nowhere. As we neared the crusts of the volcano Ashley Brookes caught her foot in the melted rock therefore we all had to wait while she was rescued. We soon neared the end so Dos Santos Cruz vidioed the incedent to take back to our offices. Alltogether it was a great experience and we all enjoyed the action packed trip.

In travel world we learn by having experience of what we are trying to acomplish and what we would like to acheive at the end of the school term.

Titus Grey from Eco Tourism visited us yesterday (tuesday 29th april).We had to freeze frame on what jobs we were doing like: looking at complaints, being on the phone talking to costumers, etc.

Finshed volcanos powerpoints

Yesterday we FINNALLY finshed our volcano powerpoint. Today we should be viewing the powerpoint. Also yesterday we had a visit by a man who is called Bryan. He told us about Safaris and how they atract tourists. He gave us a booklet about animals and plants that we had to fill in, a bit like a test. After that we watched a short video about plants and animals. finally after that we went home.

Our travel companey (travel the world) have started a power point on volcanos such as Stromboli, mount Edtna and white island. We used skills such as research skills and relevant information. We found out information on the volcanos like the base to the rim or base to base. We found that volcanos arn't just sluge and lava but they allso spurt beutiful fountin like shapes. Volcanos have a beutiful lanscape from a far away distence.

In our mantle we are a travel agency together we sort out holiday's for other people. Everyone has a role and we all work as a team, for the last couple of days we have been designing holiday brochures for our favorite holiday destinations. Some include country's like: America,Australia and Spain followed by many more. Everybody has jobs which include: manager, holiday manager, finacial officer and travel advisor. We have done a number of mantle's and so far everyone thinks this one is best.

In Travel World today, we looked through different brochures to find good describing words which would give us and idea for when we wrote for our own brochure. we all wrote a paragraph about one hotel in our brochures to persuade people to go there themselves. All of them where pretty persuasive! we all worked hard, and it was very fun!! The Brochures really helped us start our paragraphs off!!!!

But today Nicola is coming to see our progress we are very excited but nervous its all a big event since she came earlier in the week and she told us lots of efeciant things.We have also made our radio braodcast for our toys aswell its very cool.We've been very busy and it's all a blur but we will get there in the end.

Famer McGinty, is seen here striding around his farm; a man with a mission, a fighter and strindent campaigner for organic farming. His story is one of courage and resilience, in his native, Herefordshire and now just strolls around with cows thinking about what is going to happen next. Battling against his almost impossible task as he is one of the very few people who are tryingto keep his buissnes alive; the buissnes he has been running for almost 15 years, the buissnes he has had so much success in, but it now may be the tome to depart from his beloved farm.

His farm has started so many new beginings and given him so much money by selling his lovley vegetables. His farm started when he bought the land at the age of 20 and then bought several machines and animals. He, started his farm 10 years later and opened his shop 5 years after that and has made hundreds of pounds throughout his farming life and now battling against the supermarket he has now only a bit of focus on his farm, but the question is :will he win.

Today we were filming our offices. The solicitor was ill so we filmed what we were going to show him or her it was really fun and I finished the trailer it looked cool we had a video camera and were filming a tour to show the solicitor.

Skills We have learnt!!
Our whole class have had loads of fun doing our mantle we have really adapted to our different roles. This has taught us a greater understanding of later life and has also been teaching us maths and English all in one lesson. It is a great value of life to make us smarter and the lessons are fun we get to put our tables into offices and we've learnt lots of skills like; doing blogs, what it's like in a company, how to make a documentary, our communication skills, persuasive language and a whole lot more. The experience is great it's like being grown ups, when were kids.

Latest news ...
Our latest update is about how Mr McGinty has sunk into hot water. He has written to every one he knows that can help. But we are not sure what he can do now to save his little farm. We have lately received a letter from the solicitors of Pesco's telling us we have to be much more positive about Pesco's. They are threatening to sue us if we do not wish to proceed in completely changing our documentary. It's not our fault though, we were told to make a documentary Trevor was worried that esco would ruin his business; he sells food produce. We got a long way through planning the documentary, when we got the horrid letter from Pesco's solicitor. Now we have to do another fantactic documentary. If we don't do a good job on it will never ever come out into the store or on the telly. So now our whole company is working very hard for a good solution to be found.

Today we had a representative from Tesco's who came to answere some questions ;his name was Norman Smith he came instead of Mark Smith because Mark was buisy. We pushed Norman to his absalute limit asking him an complete aray of questions such as:

Did you think the local people would coplain?
Why do you need yet another Tesco's?
What do you think will be the consequences will be?
Is the building going to be eco-friendly?
Have you had any complaints?

He answered these questions with great afect and astonished us all by coming up with superb and spectacular answeres. Unfortunatly he left quickly to go to a confrence.

We watched a documentary to help us plan our new one. We have written an Itinrary. Recently at a slice of life we have had a letter from Trevor McGinty and he's not very happy with tesco building a new supermarket. He has asked s if we can make a documentary about it he thinks this should be dealt wih now, So we have had a vote and we are going to make it.

We have been running the company for 36 years and we are really successful with all we have been doing within the company has been really successful we have recently won an award for the most recent documentary we have done here at a slice of life. We have recently set up a website that keeps us up to date and it has all our infotrmation on it

We make documentaries for other companies to buy, we have recently had a buyer called Chris Pearson. He is from the BBC and he came to a slice of life, to see if he wanted to buy one of our documentaries. Whilst he was here we showed him some pitches that we had made he was very impressed and he is going to sort out the deals with us to buy one of our documentaries that we had made.
